A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words – For Today

It wouldn’t be fall without Halloween, at least not at our home. A small band of trick-or-treaters will launch their quest for sweet confections from our house. How big a haul there will be remains to be seen. We’ll attempt to provide an alternate activity sure to stuff the candy coffers and provide a bit of entertainment. In the meantime, home appears to be ready for the most macabre of holidays. To be honest, our decor tends toward the cute and quaint.

It would be nice if the isolation due to Covid caused unparalleled creativity. Isn’t that every author’s dream—to hide away in some beautiful, isolated venue and write away? Isolation doesn’t seem to do that for me. Maybe part of the problem is that I’m responsible for the beauty of my isolation. At least my collection of Halloween goodies is fun to look at so I thought I’d share some with you.

My Fourth of July button bouquet was such a hit that I decided to do one for Halloween.

The crystal salt shaker was an antique store find. Yes, I did venture out for a bit of shopping here and there. I try to support small businesses whenever possible.

Touches of the season are everywhere. I took a flower arranging class years ago. It was a lot of fun and I still have a few of the projects. This tinware container turned out especially good. Tiny trick-or-treaters surround the entire base. I actually did the tole painting myself. Remember when that was a thing?

Another antique mall find, this old ice tray brought back memories of my youth when ice cubes didn’t just shoot out of the door. They had to be made. The tray is incredibly heavy. What possible purpose could it serve now?

How about a succulent starter? I adore the way succulents look with pumpkins. All it took was a quick run through the backyard to find an ample variety of plant shapes and colors.

I made a few more pillows for Halloween. Using outdoor fabric should ensure they will last.

And here’s the front patio all lit up!

Here’s my most recent sewing project—yes, the costumes are all made—a Halloween tea cozy!

And what could be a better symbol of the season for a romance writer than skeletons entwined in a loving embrace? My husband gifted me this figurine last year. It took months before I put it away!

Here’s hoping your Halloween is fun and memorable!
